How believers defend it: Adherents typically treat scientific rebuttals and institutional dismissals as corroboration of the alleged cover-up, arguing that a geological establishment with professional and ideological investment in uniformitarianism is structurally motivated to suppress contrary findings. Cross-cultural flood narratives and physical anomalies such as high-altitude marine fossils are reinterpreted as evidence the mainstream cannot adequately explain without acknowledging the conspiracy of silence.

The conspiracy framing here requires a suppression mechanism capable of coordinating petroleum engineers, national geological surveys, mining companies, and academic researchers across two centuries and every continent — all of whom depend commercially on reading the rock record correctly.
