Origins: The term 'Zionist Occupied Government' is traceable to white nationalist and neo-Nazi circles in the United States during the 1970s and 1980s, gaining wider circulation through publications such as Eric Thomson's writings and later through white supremacist organizations and forums. The underlying ideological framework draws on longer-standing antisemitic conspiracy literature, including the fraudulent early-20th-century text 'The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,' which itself recycled older European antisemitic tropes.

How believers defend it: Adherents typically reframe mainstream condemnations of the theory as confirmation of Jewish media control, arguing that suppression or criticism of the claim is itself evidence of the coordinated power structure they allege. Official debunking by government agencies, academic institutions, or journalists is interpreted by believers as further proof of institutional capture, rendering external refutation self-reinforcing within the belief system.
