The real problem with climate change isn't the science, it's the people profiting off it — the fake recycling schemes, the Solyndra-style green energy frauds exposed as scams, the entire apparatus of control dressed up as salvation. The planet meanwhile has not stopped warming: clear signs of human-induced climate change reached new heights in 2024, with some of the consequences being irreversible over hundreds if not thousands of years, according to the State of Global Climate report from the World Meteorological Organization.

The claim that this is not "real science" collapses against the totality of the empirical record. In the scientific literature there is a very strong consensus that global surface temperatures have increased in recent decades and that the trend is caused by human-induced emissions of greenhouse gases. No scientific body of national or international standing disagrees with this view. Studies from 2019 to 2021 found scientific consensus to range from 98.7 to 100 percent. The evidence for global warming due to human influence has been recognized by the national science academies of all the major industrialized countries. Invoking Ivar Giaever as the Nobel Prize winner who supposedly confirmed that CO₂ "is our friend" misrepresents both the man and the science. Giaever shared the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physics for experimental discoveries regarding tunneling phenomena in semiconductors and superconductors — a field with no bearing on atmospheric science. According to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the University of Oslo, and Google Scholar, Giaever had not published any work in the area of climate science. Giaever was a science advisor to the Heartland Institute, an American conservative and libertarian think tank that denies climate change. His dissent is that of a physicist working outside his field, contradicted by tens of thousands of researchers whose life's work is atmospheric and earth science. It is a textbook example of the "credentials laundering" move: citing a Nobel laureate's title while ignoring that the prize had nothing to do with the subject at hand.

The Solyndra accusation against Al Gore contains a false premise worth correcting directly. Solyndra was a solar panel company connected to Obama administration loan guarantees, not an Al Gore enterprise. Solyndra took more than $500 million in government-backed loans and then went bankrupt, costing more than 1,000 people their jobs. A four-year joint investigation by the Department of Justice and the Department of Energy's Inspector General concluded in 2015 without any criminal charges or findings of political corruption. The company's collapse was driven in significant part by the price of polysilicon — the key ingredient for competing technologies — dropping by about 89% due to Chinese manufacturing advances, rendering Solyndra's technology commercially uncompetitive. Gore had no ownership stake in the company. The broader "follow the money to Gore" argument conflates, without mechanism, the fact that someone who advocates a position also holds investments related to that position. Every oil executive, coal lobbyist, and fossil-fuel-funded think tank that disputes climate science profits from the opposite conclusion — yet the theory never applies its own logic symmetrically. The actual financial incentives in this story run in the other direction: the fossil fuel industry has spent decades funding organized doubt campaigns, a well-documented pattern examined in peer-reviewed historical research. At the time of its release, "An Inconvenient Truth" generally got good reviews from climate researchers; scientists at the National Snow and Ice Data Center said that Gore's message was on the mark and that he got most of the science right. Where Gore made specific predictions that proved overstated — some sea level and ice-cap timelines — those errors were identified and corrected by the same scientific community, which is how science actually works, and they do not affect the underlying physical reality the film documented.

There is a legitimate grievance embedded in the theory that deserves to be separated from the conspiracy framing: it is entirely fair to scrutinize whether specific climate policies are well-designed, whether carbon markets are vulnerable to gaming, whether wealthy advocates exhibit personal hypocrisy, and whether particular green energy subsidies were properly vetted. These are real policy debates conducted openly in mainstream economics and environmental governance. The conspiracy theory, however, takes those genuine procedural concerns and routes them into an unfalsifiable narrative: any scientist who agrees with the consensus is either deceived or bribed; any policy failure proves the whole is a scam; any correction or update to projections is evidence of fabrication rather than science functioning normally.
